Key fob replacement

Replacement car key fobs programmed to the vehicle, including remote and proximity styles.

Key fob replacement is for a remote or proximity fob that is lost, cracked, water-damaged, or no longer worth trusting. The fob has to be the right part for that model year, and it has to be programmed. Supplying a shell without pairing it does not finish the job.

This is separate from key fob programming, which is for a fob you already have. It is also separate from car key replacement when what you need is a key that starts the car and the remote is only part of it.

There is no catalogue of prices by logo. The quote uses your vehicle, the fob type, and whether a working fob remains to help the pairing.

On the visit

A replacement fob visit

The correct part

Matched to the model year, not a generic remote that only looks similar.

Programming

The new fob is paired so the doors respond.

A working-fob check

One surviving fob can make pairing simpler. Zero fobs is a different procedure.

Start function, if combined

If the fob is also the key that authorizes start, that is tested too.

Old fob status

Lost or stolen fobs can sometimes be cleared, depending on the car.

A plain explanation

You hear what was paired and what could not be cleared.

Common situations

Fob problems we see

Lost fob

The car may still have another fob. Say how many remain.

Cracked or wet fob

Replacement is often cleaner than a repair that fails the next week.

Buttons worn flat

Describe which functions died. Programming alone will not fix a broken switch.

Push-button start fob

Proximity fobs are a different part from an older clicker remote.

What to include in the request

Year, make, and model, the city, and a short note on the fob: flip key, separate remote, or push-button proximity. If the fob is for a building rather than a car, say that. An apartment or office fob is not an automotive part and may be controlled by the building, not by a car programmer.

Broken buttons, a dead battery, and a lost fob are different faults. A battery is not a replacement. If you have already changed the battery and the car still ignores the fob, programming or replacement is the likely next step.

After the new fob works

Test lock, unlock, trunk, and panic if the car has them. If the old fob was lost or stolen, ask whether the car allows the missing fob to be removed from memory. That option depends on the vehicle, and it should be stated in the quote when it is available.

Questions

Practical answers

Can you replace a car key fob?

Yes. The usual result is a fob that locks, unlocks, and performs the other functions that model supports, programmed to your vehicle. Tell us if you still have one working fob.

Do you replace fobs for specific makes?

The visit is arranged by year, make, and model, not by a separate page for each brand. Common examples include Toyota, Honda, Ford, Hyundai, Mazda, Nissan, Kia, and several European makes. The model year decides the part.

Is a proximity fob different?

Yes. A push-button start fob is not the same part as an older remote with a flip key. Name the style, or describe whether you turn a blade or press a start button.

What if I only need the buttons repaired?

Say what still works. Some fobs are replaced, some are reprogrammed, and some are not worth rebuilding. You get that choice before parts are ordered into the job.

Need a replacement fob?

Tell us the vehicle and whether any fob still locks the doors.
